About Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy
A core part of living a healthy life is being able to share your life with other people. Although friends and family can be wonderful resources, there are issues and relationships that need a different option. We are here as that different option. Whether you are needing individual, couples, or family therapy, Petoskey Center has a clinician who can be there to help you through.
What are the benefits of psychotherapy?
It gives you a space to express how you feel and what you think without being judged.
It helps you improve your insight into your life struggles.
It helps you identify and change maladaptive patterns that keep you stuck.
It helps you process trauma and grieve losses.
It helps you set goals and achieve the life you’ve always wanted.
It helps you improve your communication skills and, in turn, improve your relationships.
Our Therapists
Jennifer Markey, PhD, MEd, CGP
Dr. Markey is accepting patients on a limited basis for consultation and individual therapy. Her specialties include (1) young adults and (2) professionals who are having difficulty living up to their work and life responsibilities/goals.
Dr. Markey utilizes an integrative therapeutic orientation weaving together relational, psychodynamic, dialectical behavior therapy, and mentalization-based concepts. She approaches therapy with an active and collaborative style, making a concerted effort to individualize sessions to specifically meet the needs of each patient. Outside of the office, Dr. Markey enjoys walking, gardening, and participating in adult gymnastics.
Jenny Layer, LMSW
(supervised by Brittany Burch LCSW-S and Jennifer Markey, PhD)
Jenny is currently accepting new patients for individual and couples therapy. She works with both teens and adults. Jenny can be a great resource particularly when you are in need of lower cost therapy options.
She offers a sliding scale with a few pro bono slots being available as well.
Jenny brings a warm, down-to-earth, and trauma-informed approach to her work with teens, adults, and families. Jenny integrates DBT, family systems, and attachment-based approaches to help clients rebuild connection with themselves and others. She works to create the feel of steady ground in what can often feel like an unstable world. Her goal is to foster a collaborative therapy space where clients feel seen, safe, and capable of healing.
Outside the office, Jenny recharges with books she can’t put down, dancing filled weekends, and the occasional puzzle marathon — usually supervised by her cat, Penelope.
