Phuong Nguyen is a Licensed Social Worker and clinical fellow at the Petoskey Center. She received her social work degree from the University of Houston. Phuong has an extensive work background which spans education, nursing, and holistic wellness practices. Before becoming a psychotherapist, Phuong worked as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse, where she developed a profound understanding of the human body’s response to trauma and stress. She also spent time as a high school teacher, gaining valuable insight into the challenges adolescents and their families face. Additionally, Phuong’s experience as a certified yoga instructor has given her an appreciation for the benefits of integrating mindfulness and body awareness into her therapeutic practices. Phuong is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a highly effective therapy for those dealing with trauma.
Currently, Phuong serves as chair of the Special Interest Groups Committee of the Houston Group Psychotherapy Society.
